M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Saturday said that the authority has prepared Ward-Level Climate Action Plans for five selected wards across the city, one from each of the five city corporations under its limits.

During a meeting on the integration of climate action initiatives with the annual budget estimates of the five City Corporations, Mr. Rao said that the Climate Action Plans have been prepared by the GBA Climate Action Cell with support from working groups, following detailed assessments at the ward level. “The analysis covered energy and buildings, transportation, solid waste management, urban planning, greenery and biodiversity, water, wastewater and stormwater management, and disaster management,” he said.

The wards selected for the pilot exercise are Shantinagar in the Central Corporation, Jakkur in the North Corporation, Begur in the South Corporation, Vijayanapura in the East Corporation, and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Ward in the West Corporation, Mr. Rao said, adding that similar Climate Action Plans would be prepared for the remaining wards in a phased manner, following separate assessments for each ward.

The GBA Chief has directed the formation of a Technical Cell to provide scientific analysis, data-driven planning support, technical guidance, and monitoring of Climate Action projects and a Climate Action podcast featuring experts and stakeholders to promote public awareness on climate-related initiatives.
