The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on Friday announced that the tuition fee for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Research) programme will be hiked from ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 for the academic year 2026-27.

IISc said that the tuition fee for the programme will be ₹80,000 per annum, on a par with other high-ranking Indian academic institutions. “The tuition fee had remained unchanged at ₹10,000 per annum since the inception of the programme in 2011,” IISc said.

The institute added that the PhD programmes and some master’s programmes will also see an increase in the tuition fee. It said that these changes will apply from the forthcoming academic year, once new admissions begin, and do not apply to existing students at the institute.

“The change in fee structure has been implemented after careful consideration and review, with the goal of sustaining and improving the institute’s academic programmes, resources, facilities, and other support services, to provide exceptional, well-rounded education for students at all levels,” the IISc said.

It further said that the institute will provide financial support towards tuition fee waivers/tuition fee reimbursement for all reserved category and EWS students.

Details on admissions and timelines for the new academic year will be announced soon on the IISc admissions website (https://admissions.iisc.ac.in/).
