Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday said the State government has provided ₹2,000 crore grants for development of Mandya district.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the two-day Gaganachukki Jalapathothsava 2025, at Gaganachukki in Malavalli taluk on Sunday, Mr. Shivakumar said the grants for development of Mandya district was in addition to the five guarantee schemes, which were being implemented across the State.

He said Mandya and Bengaluru South districts were agriculture-intensive districts dominated by farmers and the two districts were like his two eyes. “More grants have been given for development of canals and irrigation projects,” he said.

Responding to a request made by Malavalli MLA P.M. Narendraswamy for developing the bridge in Bluff area, Mr. Shivakumar said he would discuss the matter with department officials and take a suitable decision.

Pointing out that Shivanasamudra hydro-electric station was the first such power station in Asia, Mr. Shivakumar said the Departments of Tourism and Education should collaborate to chalk out an educational tour programme for students to the power station

Minister in charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy, Malavalli MLA and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Chairman P.M. Narendraswamy were also among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
