Basavaraj Horatti, Chairperson of the legislative Council, has written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to conduct the budget session of the legislature in Belagavi, instead of the winter session.

Northern Karnataka continues to suffer neglect despite several measures by successive governments. There are media reports that regional disparity continues despite implementation of the recommendations of the Dr. D. M. Nanjundappa committee. The Govinda Rao committee concurs. Effective implementation of the recommendations of such committees, and special schemes and funds will improve the condition of northern Karnataka, he stated.

“One of the measures towards addressing regional imbalance is to hold the budget session in Belagavi. Why can it not be done in the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha? I urge you, on behalf of the people of northern Karnataka, to hold the budget session in Belagavi. I am confident that a leader like you will take such a bold decision. It will be deemed historic, as it will address the issue of regional imbalance and ensure equitable and sustainable development of the entire State,” Mr. Horatti stated.
