Following discussions with the government late into the night on Monday (February 2), Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has decided to defer by one week its indefinite boycott of outpatient services as well as of academic activities.
Following an emergency executive meeting, KGMCTA said that the government had promised to issue the order correcting the anomalies in pay scales at the entry cadre by Tuesday (February 3). The government has also sought a week’s time to seek legal opinion so as to “seriously consider part payment of arrears”, KGMCTA said.
In the light of these developments following the discussions with the Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) and the Director of Medical Education, the association said that it had decided to temporarily withhold their boycott for a week.
However, the non cooperation with the government, the work-to-rule and the hunger strike by doctors will continue, KGMCTA spokesperson said.
