MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Monday said though Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not enjoy a good reputation among the people, he knew how to earn a name for himself.

Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, Mr. Vaiko said the people of Tamil Nadu were disappointed with the Union Budget as they had expected it to announce schemes for and allocate funds to States where the Assembly elections were due.

He said that while it was a matter of joy that a Tamil had presented the Union Budget for the ninth time and claimed it contained schemes to make India a developed country, the benefits of growth had not reached all sections of society. Asked whether his party would get a two-digit number of seats in the DMK alliance for the upcoming polls, he said he had no idea about it.  “We have to form a committee to hold seat-sharing talks, and the committee will speak to the DMK. Only after that will we know about the seats. Others may talk about seat-sharing now, but I do not like to discuss it at this stage,” he said.
