The Department of School Education of Karnataka has lodged a complaint over the circulation of fake SSLC examination question papers on Instagram, creating confusion among students and parents during the ongoing board examinations.

According to the complaint filed by the Director (Secondary), SSLC second preparatory examinations commenced on January 27. On the same day, images claiming to be that of the First Language Kannada question paper were posted on Instagram, followed by posts on January 28 purportedly showing the mathematics question paper.

Images claiming to be that of SSLC Kannada and mathematics question papers were posted on another Instagram account on January 27 and 28.

Upon verification, the School Education Department clarified that none of the circulated images were genuine SSLC question papers. Officials stated that the posts were misleading, intended to misinform students and people, and possibly to extract money by falsely claiming access to examination papers.

The department said such acts undermine the credibility of the examination system, and has sought legal action against those responsible.

Based on the complaint by Krishnaji S. Karichannavar, Director (secondary), Department of School Education, the Central division cyber crime police registered an FIR on January 29 against unknown persons charging them under forgery, public mischief and also under various sections of the IT Act.

It may be recalled that in January second week, the North division cyber crime police had arrested eight persons, including six teachers, in connection with the leak of SSLC preparatory examination question papers. They had also detained two students for questioning.
