Union Budget continuation of injustice to Telangana, say BRS leaders KTR, Harish Rao

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has termed the Union Budget 2026-27 as continuation of injustice to Telangana and neglect of the State by the BJP-led Government at the Centre. The party has blamed both Congress and BJP for their failure to secure funds for the State.

Working president of the party, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), alleged on Sunday that Telangana had once again been denied its rightful share in the latest Union Budget. He accused the BJP-led Centre of continuing a discriminatory approach towards the State for more than a decade and questioned the Congress-led State Government’s inability to secure even minimal allocations.

In a statement, he said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s repeated visits to New Delhi, nearly 60 so far, had yielded “not a single rupee” for Telangana. He demanded that the Chief Minister explain to the people what concrete benefits accrued to the State from those trips. He remarked that the much-publicised “bade bhai-chhote bhai” understanding between BJP and the Congress had completely failed to translate into financial gains for Telangana.

Alleging that the Chief Minister’s Delhi visits were driven by political compulsions rather than the State’s interests, Mr. Rama Rao said the Budget had exposed the “total futility” of those engagements. He maintained that Telangana had been left empty-handed while other States continued to receive substantial allocations.

Turning his criticism towards BJP, he said even the party’s own MPs and Union Ministers from Telangana had failed to raise their voice in Parliament for the State. He pointed out that despite having representation in the Union Cabinet, Telangana did not receive any meaningful allocations, which, he said, reflected the Centre’s continued neglect since the formation of the State.

Senior leader of the party and former Minister for Finance T. Harish Rao said despite Telangana playing a crucial role in the country’s economic growth, the budget had failed to do justice to the State. “Years are passing and budgets are changing, but there is no change in the Centre’s discriminatory approach towards Telangana”, he said.

There were no allocations for key projects such as the Regional Ring Road (RRR), Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, railway and irrigation projects. “There is no mention of institutions such as IIM, Navodaya Schools or Kendriya Vidyalayas for Telangana. This clearly shows deliberate neglect”, Mr. Harish Rao said.

Despite the State having eight MPs each of BJP and Congress, it had not received even one new Central project, he remarked.
