The Kerala Maritime Board (KMB) is requesting proposals for the development of three properties under it on Kozhikode beach from interested firms. A pre-bid meeting has been organised at the Government Guest House in Kozhikode at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) to discuss ideas in connection with the bidding process.

The first project is for the development of a Multimodal Transit Yard at North Beach, which will have smark parking facilities besides amenities such as e-ticketing, security, surveillance, toilet, EV charging, vendor kiosks, children’s play area, outdoor gymnasium and lawns.

Beach tourism destinations in Kozhikode to get a facelift

The 2.5 acres of land close to the Vellayil harbour is to have the facility to park a minimum of 150 cars. The smart parking facility involves automatic boom barriers, RFID readers and digital payment systems while related signages, fire fighting facility, electricity, lighting and slipways (for boat parking) are mandatory. However, the bidders will have the right to set up other facilities subject to the controls under CRZ and KMBR.

The second project is to come up in another 2.5 acres of land on South Beach, where priority is for development maximising access to natural beauty while fostering cultural, economic and social vibrancy. Projects that come under tourism and hospitality, recreational marine activities, commercial ventures, infrastructure and port led industries are advised in this space.

The third project is for the development of a wayside amenities centre in 30 cents of land. The KMB envisions transforming this site into a revenue generating asset that serves both public interest and urban development goals. The bidders could set up either of the three options, the first being retail shops, restaurants, food courts, commercial offices or co-working spaces with a minimum development area of 300 sqm. The second option is an amusement park that can accommodate at least 1,000 users per day and the third is a fueling station with at least four fuel dispensers and two electric vehicle charging stations. The bidders have the right to use any remaining land for further constructions, following the above mentioned controls.

In all the three projects, the bidders can design, build and operate the project for 30 years from the date of award of concession, while the period is extendable subject to the approval of the state government. The pre-bid date is September 17, 2025 for the first two projects while it is September 18 for the third one. The due date is October 3, 10 and 6 respectively.
