As security forces intensified their ongoing anti-terror operation, the authorities on on Friday (January 30, 2026) suspended internet services in parts of Kishtwar district in the Chenab Valley of the Jammu division.

The suspension order stated that internet suspension will be in place till mid-night of January 30 to prevent misuse by “anti-national elements”. “High-speed mobile data services are likely to be misused by anti-national elements/miscreants, which may cause deterioration of public order and unrest among the general masses,” the order said.

Security forces spotted and engaged terrorists in firefights at least three times in Kishtwar’s Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo this month.

One soldier was killed on January 18 when security forces and terrorists exchanged fire in the Singhpora forests. A terror hideout in the forest, busted by the security forces, had cooking gas cylinders and large quantities of eatables on the slope of a cliff. It was later blasted by the security forces.

Two more encounters took place between the Army and the terrorists at Mali Dana top on January 22 and Janseer-Kandiwar on January 25 but the terrorists once again slipped deep into the forest area.

Kishtwar is home to high-altitude mountain ranges of J&K. Currently, most parts have received heavy snowfall, especially in the upper reaches where a group of terrorists is believed to be hiding.

Security forces have launched multiple operations to trace the group, which is at large.
