A couple working as domestic help allegedly decamped with gold, diamond jewellery, silver articles and cash worth nearly ₹18 crore from the residence of a city-based builder in Marathahalli.

The accused, identified as Dinesh and Kamala, were employed as domestic workers at the builder’s house.

According to the police, the couple allegedly fled with around 11.5 kg of gold and diamond jewellery, 5 kg of silver articles and ₹11.5 lakh in cash.

The theft reportedly took place on January 25, when the builder’s family had stepped out to attend a function, leaving the couple and several other domestic helpers on the premises.

When the family returned, they found the valuables and the couple missing. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused may have fled to Nepal.

A case has been registered at the Marathahalli police station, and a special investigation team has been formed to trace the accused and recover the stolen property. The police are examining CCTV footage and travel records as part of the probe.
