The results of the 2025 local body elections indicate that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) must work hard, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Tuesday.

Commenting on the LDF’s lacklustre performance at a pre-Budget chat with reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Balagopal said he personally counted “overconfidence” originating from the LDF government’s achievements, including those in the social welfare sector, as one of the reasons. The LDF had also had to combat misrepresentation of facts with respect to its achievements.

In the local body polls, wherever the LDF had anticipated losses and worked hard, it had emerged victorious. “No one will say that the government has not done its job,” he said.

The ruling CPI(M)-led LDF had suffered a huge setback in the 2025 local body elections in Kerala with the Congress-led UDF making a strong comeback across corporations, municipalities, and panchayats in the State.
