The Gandhi Bhavan at B. Hosuru village in Mandya district was inaugurated on January 26.

Minister for Agriculture and Mandya district in-charge Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy, who inaugurated the facility on the occasion of Republic Day, said the Gandhi Bhavan will serve as a platform to propagate the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi to the younger generation.

The Gandhi Bhavan has been constructed by the Department of Information and Public Relations at a cost of ₹3 crore. The Minister said that as per the 2016–17 Budget announcement dated February 23, 2016, ₹3 crore was released for the construction of Gandhi Bhavans in each district headquarter to promote and propagate Gandhian ideals.

In Mandya district, the district administration allotted 36 guntas of land for the project in B. Hosuru village of Keragodu hobli, Mandya taluk.

The facility houses a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a portrait gallery, a library and reading room, a multipurpose hall, a training centre, a photo gallery depicting various phases of Gandhiji’s life, a 100-seat hall, aesthetically designed interiors and an office space.

The objective of the Gandhi Bhavan is to educate people on Gandhiji’s thoughts, principles and contribution to India’s freedom struggle, while highlighting his message of simple living, satyagraha, promotion of cottage industries, and concern for children, women, and the oppressed and backward classes.

Various activities, training programmes, meetings and events will be organised at the Gandhi Bhavan from time to time, the Minister said, expressing happiness after viewing the photo exhibits.

Ravikumar, Mandya MLA, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini, Superintendent of Police Shobharani V.J., and others were present.
