Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of stifling development in Hyderabad by allegedly colluding with the Majlis party earlier and continuing to play politics with it even now.

Addressing party workers during Republic Day celebrations, Mr. Rao charged the ruling Congress with walking ‘hand‑in‑hand with the Majlis, Muslim League and Maoists’, which he referred to as the ‘MMM’. While Maoists were being eliminated across the country, the Congress government in Telangana was providing them with ‘inspiration’, he alleged.

The BJP leader further claimed that the Congress had allied with Jamaat‑e‑Islami, an organisation which, according to him, had once spoken of breaking the country apart. Slogans such as ‘Muslim is Congress, Congress is Muslim’, he said, were an attempt to disturb communal harmony and divide society.

Urging the people of Telangana to reject the Congress and BRS, he described both parties as ‘corrupt’ and appealed to voters to support the BJP in the upcoming municipal elections.

The BJP leader charged that if the BRS committed grave injustice to all sections of society during its tenure, the Congress government is no different. There was no Rythu Bandhu for farmers, no fee reimbursement for students and no employment opportunities for the unemployed, he claimed.

He alleged that illegal immigrants were being added to voter lists in some areas with the help of local politicians. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, he said, was meant to ‘purify voter lists by deleting the names of deceased persons and illegal voters’.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman was felicitated by Mr. Rao for his role as the returning officer in successfully conducting the election process of BJP’s national president Nitin Nabin.
