Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Monday directed officials to immediately mark the land required at St. John’s Medical College Hospital and begin work to install five portal piers for the Ejipura flyover.

The instructions were given during a meeting with traffic police and representatives of St. John’s Hospital to resolve land-related issues affecting the progress of the flyover project. A small portion of a land belonging to St. John’s is required on the left side of Ejipura Main Road, while moving from the Kendriya Sadan towards Ejipura, to facilitate the installation of the portal piers.

The portal piers will be constructed along the footpath adjacent to the St. John’s compound wall. Following discussions, the St. John’s management agreed to permit the use of the required land, a release said.

Mr. Rao has instructed engineers and contractors to demarcate the area and commence work without delay. He also directed that barricades be erected to ensure public safety during construction, and that adequate space be provided for storing construction materials until the work is completed.

The compound wall of the institution should be reconstructed immediately after the installation of the portal piers, he said.

With regard to land required for constructing the flyover ramp in the St. John’s stretch, the Chief Commissioner asked officials to expedite the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) process, take possession of the land at the earliest, and complete the work swiftly.

According to the GBA officials, the construction of the 2.38-km-long Ejipura flyover on Ejipura Main Road is progressing at a rapid pace. Of the total 762 segments required for the flyover, 645 have already been cast, while 490 segments have been erected. The remaining 117 segments are yet to be cast.
