Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reiterated that maintenance of law and order is among his top priorities, saying that investments would be made in the State only when there was peace and stability.

Addressing a meeting with the Superintendents of Police on Saturday (September 13, 2025), Mr. Naidu said a crime should be treated as a crime even if it was done under the cover of politics.

He noted that the nature of crimes has changed and new types of criminals have emerged, which requires the police to always keep themselves updated with the evolving legal aspects and investigation methods.

The focus of TDP has been on maintaining law and order from its very beginning and that only an iron-handed approach helped it curb the menace of Naxalism, factions and rowdyism that posed a serious threat to society. This has to be kept in mind by the SPs, whose role in maintaining peace is crucial, he said.

The Chief Minister noted that the days when politicians used to get their rivals bumped off by criminals and indulge in other unlawful things through anti-social elements were long gone. These were the times when politicians themselves were acting like criminals.

Citing the Vivekananda Reddy murder case, he said the death was projected as caused by a heart attack by the political conspirators, which later turned out to be a cold-blooded murder.

No other case in the country has perhaps gone through as many twists as that of the former MP’s gruesome murder. This was a case study for the police, who should not be carried away by false narratives which masterminds tend to create to save themselves, Mr. Naidu said.

The Chief Minister told the police to change their investigation methods in tune with the requirements of the day, and lay due emphasis on reining in the so-called social media activists who were assassinating the character of women, and those resorting to heinous crimes against women.

The police should not tolerate conspiracies hatched in the name of protests as such programmes could vitiate peace, Mr. Naidu said, stressing the need for the police to stay ahead of the curve to achieve the best outcomes.
