An initiative titled ‘Driver Drishti Campaign’ has been launched by ASG Eye Hospital in Mysuru, offering free cataract surgeries for drivers of commercial vehicles till February 16. The programme is under the Government of India’s ‘Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan’, which aims to reduce road accidents by promoting safer driving practices.

On January 25, K.S. Sundar Raj, DCP, Crime and Traffic, Mysuru inaugurated the campaign at the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the DCP said, “During Road Safety Month, legal awareness programmes, road safety campaigns and blood donation camps were conducted in schools and colleges here. The city records around 950-1,000 accidents annually causing deaths and disabilities. Users of two-wheelers must wear helmets for their safety.”

Under this initiative, 1,000 free cataract surgeries will be performed on a first-come, first-served basis. The campaign focuses on improving road safety by addressing vision-related issues among commercial drivers, a press release said.

All eligible drivers can undergo a free eye check-up. Drivers diagnosed with cataract and advised surgery will undergo free cataract surgery at ASG, the release added.
