Posters back V. Kunhikrishnan after fund diversion allegations in Payyannur

Posters expressing support for Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Kannur district committee member V. Kunhikrishnan have appeared in Payyannur following his media statement alleging diversion of funds from the party’s martyrs’ fund by Payyannur MLA T.I. Madhusoodanan.

The posters were put up in the Thayineri area of Payyannur. Featuring photographs of V. Achuthanandan and Kunhikrishnan, the posters carry the slogan supporting the latter.

The issue erupted after Kunhikrishnan, referring to the case of former DYFI leader Dhanraj, alleged that irregularities had occurred in the collection and utilisation of the CPI(M) martyr’s fund. The allegation triggered widespread controversy and led to tensions in Payyannur.

On Saturday (January 24, 2026), the situation escalated when CPI(M) workers allegedly resorted to violence against protest marches organised by the Congress and the BJP, which had demanded the resignation of the MLA and marched to his office. Several people were injured in the clashes. Following the incident, Payyannur police registered different cases against around 200 persons of all three parties,
