The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on January 24 announced the arrest of a man from Mysuru for allegedly misusing the name of a joint secretary in the Chief Minister’s secretariat and cheating an assistant professor of lakhs of rupees.

The accused has been identified as K.C. Jagadish, a resident of Mysuru. He allegedly used the name of M. Ramaiah, joint secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat at Vikasa Soudha, to carry out the fraud. The victim has been identified as Venkatesh Mutthannanavar, an assistant professor at JSS Science College.

According to the complaint, Mr. Mutthannanavar had been attempting to become a member of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). He met Jagadish through a paying guest accommodation owner in Kengeri. Jagadish allegedly promised to help him obtain KPSC membership and claimed that the work would be done through Ramaiah.

However, Ramaiah was unaware of the matter and learnt about it only later. He subsequently submitted a complaint to Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, who handed over the case to the CCB. The police arrested Jagadish on Thursday for questioning.
