The Elathur police and a crime squad led by Arun K. Pavithran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, have arrested Kuttikkatttur native Ranjith, 39, the second accused in the mysterious death of West Hill native Vijil Vijayan due to suspected drug overdose in 2019.

According to the police, Ranjith had been in Bengaluru when the police arrested K.K. Nikhil of Eranhipalam and S. Deepesh of Vengeri, the other two accused in the case. The police were subsequently tracking his location.

Ranjith later went to Andhra Pradesh when he came to know that the police had recovered the skeletal remains of Vijil on Friday. He had reportedly been on the run since then. However, the police chased him down with the help of the cyber cell at Khammam in Telangana and arrested him.
