In a significant step towards strengthening the advanced neurological care and research ecosystem, Christian Medical College (CMC) and Vattikuti Foundation jointly launched the Centre of Advanced Neurotechnology at CMC’s new campus in Ranipet on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Vikaram Mathews, director, CMC, said that the new facility has marked the commissioning of an advanced MR-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) system, expanding to non-invasive treatment options for patients crippled with essential tremors, and tremors in patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. The new centre has strengthened CMC’s mission to integrate innovation with compassionate patient care, education, and research,” he said.

The MRgFUS system at the new centre will offer clinical and research opportunities across a wide range of neurological conditions, including patients with epilepsy who are non-responsive to treatments, neuropathic and intractable pain, substance abuse and addictions, neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and supportive management of brain tumour.

The clinical focus at the new centre will initially include movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremors. The centre aims to improve access to advanced neurotechnology for patients, especially in non-metro and underserved regions, while playing the dual role of delivering patient care at scale and advancing neuroscience research.

The new centre has also brought together senior clinicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, and researchers from CMC Vellore and the Vattikuti Foundation to collaborate on healthcare and research. “True progress in healthcare comes when innovation reaches the underprivileged. The new centre will focus on advancing cost-effective care that is less invasive while creating lasting value for patients,” said Raj Vattikuti, founding chairman, Vattikuti Foundation.

On the occasion, Mahendra Bhandrai, CEO, Vattikuti Foundation; I. Rajesh, medical superintendent, CMC; doctors and staff of CMC were present.
