A police constable was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl in central Bengaluru while on duty.

The accused has been identified as Yamuna Nayak, a police constable attached to the R.T. Nagar police station. The incident occurred on Friday morning near Freedom Park in the heart of the city.

According to the police, Nayak was deputed for bandobast duty at Freedom Park when he allegedly harassed a pre-university college student. The victim later filed a complaint. The Upparpet police have registered a case against Nayak under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,2012, and taken him into custody.

The case has come to light at a time when the police department is facing public criticism and a series of suspensions.
