The Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has prevented ganja cultivation completely in Andhra Pradesh, and there was no ganja crop in the State now, said EAGLE head and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ake Ravi Krishna.
“EAGLE, in association with Tribal Welfare, Agriculture, Police, Revenue, and other departments have succeeded in preventing ganja cultivation in the tribal habitations in AP,” the IGP said.
He participated in a rally and awareness programme against drugs and ganja jointly organised by EAGLE, Aster Ramesh Hospitals and NTR Commissionerate Police in Vijayawada on Saturday (January 24, 2026).
Addressing the students, Mr. Ravi Krishna said that international drug smugglers were targeting youth and students in India, and were dropping drug stocks through drones in Kashmir, Punjab, and other States. “If you are a patriot and live in India, don’t fall prey to drugs and save the country from enemies,” the EAGLE head said.
Aster Ramesh Hospitals managing director Dr. Pothineni Ramesh Babu, who participated in the rally, said many drug addicts were suffering with psychiatric and other chronic health disorders.
“Management of Aster Ramesh Hospitals is giving counselling to the drug addict-patients and prevent the menace,” said hospital chairman M.S. Rammohan Rao.
NTR Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu has said that of the 96 ganja addicts sent to jails under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics and Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988, in AP, 22 were from NTR Commissionerate.
Students of various education institutes, Aster Ramesh Hospitals general manager Jyesta Rajashekar, Dr. Sudershan, Dr. Subba Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Commissioner S.K. Shareen Begum and other officers participated.
