The Kannur police have registered a case of alleged medical negligence against a doctor at a private hospital here after parents complained that their newborn twins suffered severe vision impairment during treatment at the hospital.

According to the complaint, the twins were delivered at the hospital on August 3, but timely and appropriate treatment was reportedly not provided, leading to serious damage to their vision. The parents came to know about the lapse from another doctor at the same hospital.

The infants were later taken to an eye hospital in Kannur and later referred to a specialised eye hospital in Coimbatore. One of them, who suffered severe vision loss in both eyes, underwent surgery, but eyesight could not be fully restored.
