Light rains, thunderstorm across parts of Delhi; rain likely in Punjab and Haryana

Early morning rain in many parts of New Delhi on Friday (January 23, 2026) lowered temperatures across the city.

Several localities witnessed light to moderate rainfall. The weather office said cloudy conditions are likely to prevail through the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain over Delhi and adjoining regions for the day due to an ongoing western disturbance.

One or two spells of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph during the early morning to forenoon hours are expected.

Another spell of very light to light rain is likely towards the afternoon or evening.

Thunderstorms, rain likely across parts of Punjab and Haryana

Several parts of Punjab and Haryana are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds during the morning hours on Friday (January 23), according to a tehsil-level nowcast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The nowcast is valid from 6.25 a.m. to 9.25 a.m. for Punjab and from 6.24 a.m. to 9.24 a.m. for Haryana.

In Punjab, thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rain are very likely over parts of Budhlada, Lehra, Mansa, Sunam, Sangrur, Barnala, Tapa, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Chandigarh, Kharar, Khamanon, Ludhiana East and West, Chamkaur Sahib, Samrala, Rupnagar, Moga, Shahkot, Nihal Singh Wala, Raikot, Jagraon, Phillaur, Nakodar, Phagwara, Jalandhar (I and II), Kapurthala, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Nangal, Hoshiarpur, Bhulath, Dasua and Mukerian. Gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are also expected in these areas.

Light rain is very likely over parts of Sardulgarh, Talwandi Sabo, Abohar, Malout, Bathinda, Gidderbaha, Fazilka, Rampura Phul, Jaitu, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Jalalabad, Bagha Purana, Faridkot, Firozpur, Zira, Patti, Sultanpur Lodhi, Tarn Taran, Khadur Sahib, Baba Bakala, Amritsar (I and II), Batala, Ajnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Dhar Kalan.

In Haryana, thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall are very likely over parts of Bhiwani, Tosham, Bawani Khera, Hansi, Hisar, Adampur, Narnaund, Fatehabad, Karnal, Indri, Thanesar, Meham, Julana, Safidon, Jind, Asandh, Kaithal, Nilokheri, Narwana, Tohana, Kalayat, Ratia, Radaur, Barara, Jagadhri, Chhachhrauli, Narayangarh, Panchkula, Guhla, Pehowa, Shahabad, Ambala, Chandigarh and Kalka. These areas may also experience strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph.

Light rain is likely over parts of Firozpur Jhirka, Punahana, Hodal, Hathin, Nuh, Palwal, Taoru, Ballabgarh, Sohna, Gurugram, Nangal Chaudhari, Narnaul, Ateli, Mahendragarh, Kanina, Badhra, Loharu, Charkhi Dadri, Bawal, Rewari, Pataudi, Kosli, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Siwani, Sirsa, Dabwali, Faridabad, Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Panipat, Samalkha, Ganaur, Gharaunda and adjoining areas.

The IMD has not issued any formal warning but has advised residents to remain alert, stay updated with weather advisories, and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and gusty winds.
