As part of World Suicide Prevention Week (September 10–16), the NSS Unit of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Centre for Post-Graduate Studies (VTU CPGS), Kalaburagi, in association with ESIC Medical College & Hospital, organised a Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme at the VTU Seminar Hall on Saturday. The theme for this year’s observance was “Changing the Narrative in Suicide.”

Inaugurating the programme, Shubhangi D.C., Regional Director of VTU CPGS, underlined the collective responsibility in preventing suicides and promoting mental health among youth.

Soumya S. Patil, MD (Psychiatry), ESIC Medical College, delivered the keynote talk and highlighted the need to break stigma, seek timely medical and emotional help, and extend peer support.

“Talking openly about mental health and standing by those in distress can save lives,” she stressed.

A skit performed by MBBS students of ESIC Medical College depicted the struggles faced by individuals with mental health issues and the importance of community support in suicide prevention, leaving a strong impression on the audience.

NSS Coordinator Sanjay Pattanshetty, and other faculty members were present. .
