A teacher and a student of the Kodakara-based Sahrdaya Institute of Management Studies sustained serious injuries after the bus they were travelling in overturned near Kallambalam near here in the early hours of Saturday (January 17, 2026).

Several other students of the institute sustained minor injuries.

Noyal Wilson, a faculty member, and student Christo Paul, both seriously injured in the accident, are receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Forty-one students and two teachers of the institute were on their way to the Vizhinjam international seaport as part of a study tour. They had left Kodakara in Thrissur district around 9.15 p.m. on Friday (January 16, 2026). The mishap reportedly took place around 3.30 a.m. on Saturday (January 17, 2026) on a service road alongside the National Highway stretch near Kallambalam. The bus had fallen on its side. The vehicle is believed to have hit a fencing on the road, which was on higher ground at that point, and overturned into the compound of a nearby building.

Local people, the police and the Fire and Rescue Services launched prompt rescue operations and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. By evening, all passengers except Mr. Wilson and Mr. Paul were discharged and were on their way back to Kodakara, college officials told The Hindu.
