Jose Nelledam, a Congress leader from Mullankolli in Wayanad, was found dead in a pond near his house on Friday (September 12, 2025). According to preliminary findings by the Pulpally police, it appears to be a case of suicide.

A member of Mullankolli grama panchayat, Nelledam was recently implicated in a case involving Congress worker Kanattumala Thankachan. Mr. Thankachan was arrested on charges of keeping liquor and explosives in his house. He was later acquitted, while another person was arrested. Mr. Thankachan had alleged that a few party leaders, including Mr. Nelledam, had conspired against him. Nelledam was questioned in connection with the case.

The Pulpally police are investigating the case.
