The case registered against Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader Shibu Baby John and his family in an alleged cheating matter is “an example of political intolerance” pursued by the current ruling dispensation in Kerala, United Democratic Front (UDF) convenor Adoor Prakash, MP, has said.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Mr. Prakash said the case against Mr. John and his family, including his 94-year-old mother, is “a case of a despicable form of political vendetta.”

“This is a move not only against an individual but also against a family and a political tradition pursued by his party over the years, and against Kerala’s democratic conscience. Deliberately turning issues that could be resolved legally into criminal cases is not truth-seeking but a planned political weaponisation to divert public attention from the corruption allegations plaguing the Left government, its failures, and the anti-people decisions taken by the CPI(M) regime,” he said.

Claiming that “false cases cannot destroy Baby John’s ideals”, Mr. Prakash said the UDF would stand united against “such political vendetta” that drags even the former’s family into it.

A police case has been registered against Mr. John, his family members, and a builder for allegedly cheating a person by promising to construct and hand over an apartment at Kadakampally in Thiruvananthapuram.
