Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on January 17 and 18 to participate in a mass dance event and perform an initiation ceremony for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project.

This will be his second visit to the poll-bound State in less than a month.

According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will attend Bagurumba Dwhou 2026, a mass folk dance of the Bodo community at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex after landing in Guwahati on Saturday (January 17, 2026). More than 10,000 Bodo artists from 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of the State are expected to take part in this mega event.

Mr Modi had witnessed similar mass cultural events at the same venue earlier. The first was a mega Bihu event in April 2023, and the second was the Jhumoir Binandini in February 2025.

₹6,950 crore Kaziranga project

On Sunday (January 18, 2026), the Prime Minister will perform the ‘bhoomi pujan’ for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project at Kaliabor in central Assam’s Nagaon district. Worth over ₹6,950 crore, the four-lane project is envisaged to ensure the uninterrupted movement of animals, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and enhance regional connectivity.

“The 86 km long Kaziranga corridor is an environmentally conscious National Highway project. It will feature 35 km of elevated wildlife corridor that will pass through Kaziranga National Park, 21 km bypass section, and 30 km widening of the existing highway section of NH-715 from two to four lanes,” the statement said.

“The project aims to improve regional connectivity while ensuring protection of the park’s rich biodiversity,” it said.

During the programme, the Prime Minister will flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains, one between Guwahati (Kamakhya) and Rohtak and the other between Dibrugarh and Lucknow (Gomti Nagar).
