Vasanth Eshwar Chauhan, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Mysuru West, has appealed to vehicle owners to avoid middlemen and avail services directly by submitting applications online.
Briefing reporters about the awareness programmes taken up as part of Road Safety Month observed every year during January, Mr. Chauhan shared details about the Transport Department’s online services, which are also covered under the Sakala scheme, which ensures the timely delivery of services.
He said the Regional Transport Department in Mysuru is providing more than 26 services online that include Driving Licence (DL), Learners’s Licence Registration (LLR), and various other vehicle-related services such as transfer of ownership, change of address, payment of tax, hypothecation agreement and cancellation, issue of tax clearance certificate, duplicate registration certificate, and renewal of registration certificate.
Vehicle owners should first update their mobile numbers, submit applications based on Aadhaar OTP, update the documents, pay the required fee and submit the same at the office to avail services directly, he said.
In the event of vehicle owners facing any problems while making an online application, they can contact the help desk at the RTO office. The public can also meet the officers concerned between 3 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. at the office, he said.
Mr. Chauhan said the printing of DL and Registration Certificates (RC) have been centralised now. “Earlier, it was being printed in our office. Now, it will be printed in our central office and distributed through us,” he said.
The card printing and distribution system will soon be streamlined and the pending 8,000 cards will be distributed soon, he promised.
He said the DL aspirants will have to undergo a test at the Automatic Driving Testing Track in Mysuru, which does not allow any human intervention. “There will be no intervention by our inspector,” he said.
He said an automatic testing centre for vehicles that were over 15 years old is being set up. Once ready, the centre will test the vehicles through machines and technology without any human intervention. The application for Fitness Certificate will be rejected if the vehicle does not pass the test, he said.
