Three killed in car-van collision at Kunnamangalam in Kerala’s Kozhikode

Three persons were killed in an involving a pick-up van and a car at Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode district in Kerala early Monday. The deceased were identified as Subik, 27, of Engapuzha, Ahammed Nihal, 27 of Koduvally and Shameer, 34 of Wayanad.

The head-on collision between the two vehicles took place around 2 a.m. Subik and Nihal were travelling in the car which reportedly collided with the van. Shameer was the driver of the van which was on its way to Kozhikode from Wayanad.

Though some local residents attempted to carry out the rescue operation, they could not extricate the victims. Later, a Fire and Rescue Services squad carried out the rescue operation.

Police sources said the three succumbed to injuries on the spot.

Two others who sustained grave injuries were admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Police officers who examined CCTV visuals from the accident spot said both the vehicles were proceeding at high speed. Both the vehicles were destroyed in the impact of the collision, they said.
