Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has said the State Cabinet has approved an 800 MW thermal power project in Ramagundam region in tune with the aspirations of people of Peddapalli district.

A formal announcement to this effect will be made soon in Ramagundam, he said while addressing a public meeting in Godavarikhani on Sunday.

Earlier, the Deputy CM along with Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Konda Surekha, and Adluri Laxman Kumar laid foundation stones for various development works in Ramagundam municipal corporation limits.

The works include drinking water pipeline and other civic works, all worth around ₹175 crore. They handed over the Indiramma house pattas and double bedroom houses to the beneficiaries, sources said.

Mr Vikramarka recalled that during his People’s March padayatra in 2023 in the region, people sought a new thermal power project in Ramagundam in view of the production stoppage at the old thermal power project in Telangana’s power hub. The State Cabinet has approved the long-standing demand of the people for an 800 MW thermal power project in this region for employment and livelihood opportunities, he noted.

Describing the government-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) as a jewel in the crown of Telangana, the Deputy CM said it is the collective responsibility of all to strengthen it. He said, “SCCL has unmatched expertise in mining compared to any other institution in the country. In the future, SCCL should also move into rare earth minerals mining, which will make it globally significant and generate more employment opportunities.”

A ₹1-crore accident insurance coverage has been extended to Singareni employees and workers as well as to the employees and workers in all power sector institutions, he said, reiterating that the State government is going to provide the accident insurance to 5.14 lakh regular government employees in the State.

He accused the previous BRS government of thrusting a dictatorial regime on the State. The Indiramma Rajyam has taken up the construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses across the State, he said, highlighting various other flagship welfare schemes of the Congress government.
