Delegates from nearly 40 countries are expected to attend the public meeting on January 18 in Khammam as part of the concluding celebrations of its centenary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), said CPI State secretary and MLA Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao said.

Addressing journalists in Hyderabad, he said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, senior leaders of Left parties will attend the meeting, which would serve as a testimony to the continued relevance and strength of communism in India.

The interaction was attended by CPI national secretary Palla Venkata Reddy, senior leaders K. Narayana, MLC Nellikanti Satyam, Telangana Media Academy Chairman K Sreenivas Reddy among others.

Mr. Koonamneni said people from various States, including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as well as other parts of the country, would attend the meeting in large numbers, with many making voluntary transport arrangements. Prior to the public meeting, a ‘Jana Seva Dal’ march involving around 10,000 participants will be held.

He also announced that a national seminar would be organised on January 19, followed by meetings of the CPI National Secretariat, Executive and Council on January 19, 20 and 21.

Referring to global and national political developments, he said Communist parties in countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal have come to power by adapting to changing conditions while remaining committed to Communist ideology. In the Indian context, he said issues such as Operation Kagar and the implementation of four labour codes affecting workers’ rights have led to increasing calls for unity among Left parties.

Mr. Palla Venkata Reddy said centenary celebrations were held throughout the year and noted that people continue to look towards communists for solutions to public issues. Dr K. Narayana said that despite not being in power, Communist parties have played a key role over the last 100 years in safeguarding democracy, preserving national unity and securing fundamental rights.

Mr Narayana also recalled the CPI’s contributions during the freedom struggle and major people’s movements, asserting that the future belongs to the people and to the Communist Party.
