Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Veerabhoomi, a museum on the life and contribution of Sangolli Rayanna and his associates in the war against the British, in Nandagad in Belagavi district on January 19.

At a meeting in Belagavi on Friday, Kannada and Culture Department Minister Shivraj Tangadgi told officials to make necessary preparations for the event like drinking water system, vehicle parking, seats, and food and other for people coming to the programme.

“The Veerabhoomi Museum is already completely completed at a cost of around Rs 75 crore. There are some minor changes, and instructions have already been given to officials to complete them and prepare for the inauguration,” he said.

He instructed Mohammad Roshan, Deputy Commissioner, and Sangolli Development Authority Commissioner R. Shalini to take up the work of cleaning the lake in Nandagad so that a statue on the banks of the lake can be unveiled during the inauguration. The government also plans to construct a glass house next to Rayanna’s tomb at a cost of ₹23 crore and take up other development works.

H.M. Revanna, chairman, Karnataka State Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority, suggested improvement of roads leading to Nandagad village and the museum.

Sangolli Rayanna fought against the British decades before the war of 1857. He was a great patriot who was not limited to any one community, Mr. Revanna said.

Earlier, Mr. Tangadagi and Mr. Revanna visited Nandagad and Sangolli and inspected various works.

The Museum in Nandagad has several facilities like a multi-dimensional cinema hall, murals, statues, a park, a snack bar, toilets, and coloured lighting. The minister said school and college children will be given concessional admission.

MLAs Mahantesh Kaujalagi and Vitthal Halagekar, BUDA chairman Lakshman Rao Chingale, District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority President Vinay Navalagatti, SP K. Ramarajan, ZP CEO Rahul Shindhe, probationary officer Abhivan Jain, Kannada and Culture Department Deputy Director Vidyavathi Bhajantri, ZP planning officer Ravi Bangarappanavar, and others were present.
