Besides financial support from the government, backing of private sector too can be made available on a large scale for the development of the State capital, Governor Rajendra Arlekar has said.

Interacting with city Corporation councillors who were invited for a development dialogue at Lok Bhavan here on Saturday, Mr. Arlekar underscored the importance of dedication and efficient implementation for development, adding that funds were not a problem.

The Governor said that political differences should be set aside for the development of the capital city, and each councillor should think about what they could do for the good of the people. They should introspect why they were elected rather than how, he said, adding that an answer will help them achieve a lot in the next five years and get an opportunity to represent the people again. Each councillor should present to the people a progress report of their achievements every year, Mr. Arlekar said.

He exhorted everyone to stand united to ensure that funds from the Union government were received.

He also called for concerted effort to identify a place in the city for conducting protests.

Mayor V.V. Rajesh and councillors S.P. Deepak and K.S. Sabarinadhan spoke in the meeting. R. Sreelekha was not present.
