The world should not stand by with folded hands while the United States carries out attacks against independent sovereign nations, Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar has said.

Speaking at a reception accorded to the Kerala Yatra being conducted under the Kerala Muslim Jamaat here on Sunday, he said that such actions should no longer be allowed. “India should raise its voice against this and take the lead in protests. The unilateral aggression against Venezuela cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” Mr. Kanthapuram said.

He said that actions that undermine the sovereignty of nations were taking place across the world. “Unilateral attacks on other countries will erode the very concept of democracy. There are growing concerns about whether the world is gradually moving towards authoritarianism. We should be able to stand in solidarity with all people across the world who are under attack,” the Sunni leader said.

Mr. Kanthapuram said that Kozhikode should be transformed into the cultural capital of India. “Kozhikode is a land of great historical significance. The city’s religious, cultural and industrial history, heritage and tradition of exchange have drawn attention even at the international level. We have a responsibility to carry forward the reputation built by our forefathers. Kozhikode is now a City of Literature. Leveraging both its past grandeur and present potential, a major cultural centre should be established in Kozhikode under the initiative of the government,” he added.

The reception was inaugurated by John Brittas, MP.
