Traffic in several parts of Cyberabad was disrupted on Friday (September 12, 2025) morning following heavy overnight rain and the release of water from Himayatsagar. The Cyberabad Traffic Police said the gates of the lake had been opened, leading to diversions and road closures.

The service road at Exit 17 was shut after water overflowed from Himayatsagar. Vehicles travelling from Shamshabad towards Gachibowli were diverted through Kismatpur, Bandlaguda and TGPA Junction, while traffic heading in the opposite direction was rerouted via Lords College, Kismatpur, Budwel and Aramghar, the police said.

Traffic jams in western Hyderabad

The rains led to Traffic jams at key roads including Miyapur junction, T-Hub junction, Ikea to Cyber Towers route, ROB flyover to JNTU among others. Traffic snarls were reported in the morning peak hours, particularly along the busy IT corridor.

At Gowlidoddi, near Nawab Hotel, road damage caused by the downpour left several potholes and broken patches, slowing traffic and causing discomfort to motorists. Police advised drivers to avoid the stretch if possible, to move slowly on visibly damaged portions, and to allow additional travel time.

Congestion was also observed from Hafeezpet towards the Kondapur RTO office, where officers were deployed to regulate the flow.

Traffic alerts were issued for Parvath Nagar as well, with movement slowing between the SBI Colony Signal and Parvath Nagar. Motorists were warned of delays at junctions and advised to use alternate routes.

Adding to the morning rush, a vehicle broke down at Indranagar Signal towards Gachibowli, further worsening congestion in the area. Police urged road users to take diversions, drive cautiously and plan ahead for longer travel times.

Rain on September 12

In addition, the Cyberabad Traffic Police issued a weather update for September 12, warning of ‘fairly widespread thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall’ from the afternoon until midnight.

While no alert was in place until noon, a yellow alert was sounded for later in the day, with the possibility of escalation to orange depending on prevailing conditions.

Officials said rains were expected to cover between 60- 80% of the Cyberabad region, with a 70% probability of intense showers and thunderstorms. Commuters were advised to remain cautious, plan travel accordingly and stay tuned for further updates.
