A couple was killed after being run over by a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus at Moosarambagh in Hyderabad on Thursday (January 1, 2026) night.

The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Tirupathi Rao, and 45-year-old Venkatamma, natives of Suryapet district. They were in the city on a visit to their daughter in Kothapet, Dilsukhnagar.

According to police, the couple was riding a two-wheeler to Tank Bund around 9 p.m. in view of New Year celebrations when Tirupathi Rao allegedly applied sudden brakes and lost control of the vehicle, causing both to fall onto the road. They then came under the rear wheels of an RTC bus from the Dilsukhnagar depot that was travelling behind them, resulting in their death on the spot, said Malakpet ACP K. Subba Rami Reddy.

The couple’s daughter and son-in-law were travelling ahead of them on another two-wheeler. Clarifying the circumstances, the official said the bus driver was not at fault and that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the two-wheeler rider. Based on a complaint lodged by the bus driver, the Malakpet police registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
