One person died and at least 14 others were hospitalised after complaining of stomach pain and uneasiness following a community New Year celebration at Bhavani Nagar in Jagadgirigutta on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) night.

The deceased was identified as Pandu, 53, a resident of Bhavani Nagar. The others, who reported similar symptoms, were rushed to nearby hospitals and are undergoing treatment.

According to Jagadgirigutta Inspector B. Venkatesham, the residents had organised a local New Year party during which chicken and fish were cooked and liquor was consumed. “Pandu reportedly died in his sleep, suspected to be due to food poisoning. The others woke up feeling unwell,” the inspector said.

Police have registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The body was sent for post-mortem, and the food samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.
