Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao visited the Central Prison in Hindalga in Belagavi on Thursday, following reports that an unidentified miscreant threw two parcels containing guns and drugs onto the jail premises.
A video was widely circulated on social media on Wednesday.
Mr. Gulabrao told reporters later that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted into the incident.
Prison authorities told him later that the case was one month old and that they have registered a complaint. Police are also looking into the recovery of a mobile phone without SIM cards in a barrack a few days ago, prison sources said.
