Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J.P. Nadda on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) launched a sharp attack on Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him and his party of repeatedly “misleading” the public on governance, economy, national security and constitutional institutions.

“Your lies and hypocrisy regarding the Aravalli region have also been exposed, Mr. Kharge. During Congress governments, the mountains were openly plundered. The Congress destroyed the Aravalli region… your government sold it. We, in accordance with a court decision, imposed a moratorium and limited mining,” said Mr. Nadda in a series of posts on X.

The BJP chief alleged that the Congress always peddled lies. “Congress lost Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and you were wiped out in Delhi and Bihar. Mr. Kharge, in 2025, the people of the country rejected every lie you had. Despite this, you remain undeterred from cultivating falsehoods,” he said, asking the Congress leader to “stop serving lies and instead of being self-obsessed, introspect”.

In response to the Congress’s charge that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has been abolished, Mr. Nadda said the scheme was expanded by increasing working days to 125, ensuring payment within 15 days, and linking it to rural empowerment. “In fact, while this issue was being discussed in Parliament, your ‘leaders’ were abandoning the discussion and meeting with anti-India figures in the ‘Global Progressive Alliance’, funded by the anti-India George Soros. Isn’t that right,” he asked.

Accusing Mr. Kharge of “lying” on Special Intensive Revisions (SIR) of electoral rolls and booth-level officers (BLOs), Mr. Nadda said people caught the Congress’ “lie” and the court also dismissed it. “What happened in Bihar? How many of your BLOs hit the ground? How many complaints did you file with the Election Commission? The public’s votes were not stolen; they exercised their right to vote and did not believe your lies,” he said.

On the economy, the BJP president said under the Congress-led UPA government, the country was in “Fragile Five”, but today it was in “Top Five”. “India is not only the world’s fourth-largest economy but also, amid all the turmoil, the world’s fastest-growing economy… people in the country and the entire world recognise India as an economic superpower. Your refusal to accept this makes no difference,” said Mr. Nadda.

“You are also lying about GST (Goods & Services Tax), while economic experts around the world are describing how GST reforms have benefited India’s economy. GST collections have seen record increases, small shopkeepers have benefited, ordinary people have got relief, and the country’s economy has received a boost,” he said.

The BJP chief targeted Mr. Kharge over the Congress’ stand on Operation Sindoor. “The entire world saluted Operation Sindoor, but all your leaders continued to speak Pakistan’s language.. you trust other countries, even Pakistani leaders, but not the country’s army, Parliament, the Prime Minister or the Defence Minister… You lied about the surgical strike and the air strike, the public knows your anti-national mindset,” he said.

Mr. Nadda said even as the Congress leaders were celebrating New Year holidays, the BJP-led NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was holding meetings and approving infrastructure projects.

He accused the Congress of pressuring and insulting the judiciary. “…you lied about the Kumbh Mela, even though it not only restored India’s great cultural power but also brought economic strength… you and your party hate everything good about the country,” he added.
