HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) proposes to hold public meetings in Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts to mobilise people’s support for the State’s water rights, beginning with a meeting in January first week, mostly after the Assembly session.

BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao had a meeting with party leaders of the combined Krishna Basin districts Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Nalgonda, on Friday, attended by sitting and former MLAs and MLCs, former MPs, other senior leaders from the four districts, apart from working president K.T. Rama Rao, senior leaders T. Harish Rao and B. Vinod Kumar.

Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao explained to the party leaders how the people of the three combined districts, in particular, would be deprived of their rightful share in Krishna waters, despite being within the basin, as the neighbouring States were conspiring with the active support of the present Telangana government to over-utilise the Krishna water or to divert it to the non-basin areas.

The party is believed to be planning to take deep into people the government’s communication sent to the Ministry of Jal Shakti recently asking for all necessary clearances and permission to Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme for utilisation of 45 tmc ft a year against the originally intended 90 tmc ft.

Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao is said to have stressed the need to strongly rebut the government’s misinformation campaign that the BRS government did not secure any clearances of PRLIS, whereas seven clearances — forest stage one and two, wildlife, tribal welfare, EAC recommendation for EC and others were secured.

The BRS chief is said to have given directions to party legislators on the party’s strategy for the Assembly session, particularly in the wake of the government plan to make a PowerPoint presentation on the river water shares issue, targeting both the State and Central governments. He is expected to attend the Assembly on the first day of the session.
