Sansad Khel Mahotsav to begin in Kundgol on Thursday

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has said that the annual Sansad Khel Mahotsav will begin in Kundgol on Thursday and conclude with the final round events in Dharwad on January 30, 2026.

Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Monday, Mr. Joshi said that the objective of the sprots meet is to encourage youths to participate in various sports activities and also motivate them to take interest in indigenous games.

Mr. Joshi said that since the participation in physical activities by youths has declined in the recent years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasised the need for young people to engage in the sports.

He added that promoting regular and indigenous games remain a key focus of the initiative.

From Kundgol

Mr. Joshi said that the event will begin with a formal inauguration of two-day Assembly level competitions near Shivanand School in Kundgol of Dharwad district on Thursday.

Subsequently, constituency and taluk level events will be held at Kalghatgi, Garag, Dharwad, Navalgund, Hubballi, Shiggaon before the final round on Karnatak College Grounds in Dharwad on January 29 and 30, 2026.

The Khel Mahotsav comprises both individual athletic events and group games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and volleyball.

This apart, indigenous games like Mallakhamba, Lagori, tug-of-war, Gilli-Danda (tip-cat), wrestling and others. The competitions will be held in under-17 and above-17 categories and the winners will get cash prizes and trophies.
