Senior actor and Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Mohanlal has said that Malayalis saw themselves and their varied emotions on screen through the memorable characters created by renowned actor-screnarist Sreenivasan, who died in Kochi on Saturday (December 20, 2025).

“His characters portrayed their pain and happiness. Who else other than Sreenivasan can recreate the dreams and disillusionments of the middle class on screen?,” he said in his Facebook post.

The actor, who had shared the screen with Mr. Sreenivasan in popular movies that include ‘Nadodikattu’, ‘Pattanapravesham’, ‘Varavelpu’, ‘Mithunam’ to name a few, said that their relationship was far beyond the realms of having worked together in cinema. “The magic in his writing helped the characters that we played together transcend time. The characters Dasan and Vijayan resonated with each Malayali, thanks to his unique writing skill,” he said referring to the iconic characters played by him and Sreenivasan in ‘Nadodikattu’.

“His creations were a mirror to our society as he narrated stories of pain laced with humour. We always travelled together like Dasan and Vijayan in real life and on screen, enjoying, quarelling and becoming friends again,” he said.
