Medical and Health officials identified as many as 46 cases of scrub typhus across Annamayya district, which included 11 cases within Madanapalle Assembly constituency limits.
The first scrub typhus case in the Madanapalle division was confirmed on Wednesday. A medical officer said that a native of Cheruvu Mundara Palli village of Kollabayalu panchayat had been tested positive for the disease. The panchayat secretary, along with senior medical officials from Madanapalle, inspected the area and created awareness among locals about preventive measures.
The officials also took up a sanitation drive in the panchayat. Bleaching powder was sprayed in the surrounding areas, and residents were advised to remain alert and maintain hygiene to prevent further spread of the infection.
A special team from the District Medical and Health department stepped up surveillance in vulnerable villages in Rajampeta, Rayachoti and Madanapalle divisions, besides planning a series of awareness campaigns to educate people on symptoms and early treatment. The district officials urged the public not to panic and seek medical attention if symptoms such as fever, headache or body pain persist.
