The Ernakulam Central police on Monday arrested two youths for allegedly assaulting a 53-year-old US citizen of Odisha origin and robbing him of cash and valuables worth over ₹3.1 lakh. The arrested are Adarsh of Mulanthuruthy and Akash of Palluruthy.
The alleged incident took place around 7.30 a.m. on Sunday at a hotel on Shanmugham Road where the complainant, who was on an official visit to the city, had checked in on Saturday.
The police traced the suspects later in the day. The duo were booked on charge of criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, robbery, and causing hurt. The police said attempts were on to recover the stolen money and valuables.
