YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar was arrested by the Greater Chennai City Police on Saturday (December 13, 2025) afternoon in connection with a criminal case registered against him.

When personnel from the Meenambakkam and Madipakkam police stations went to his residence, located in an apartment complex on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, on Saturday morning, Shankar reportedly refused to come out and locked himself inside. He told the officials to wait until his advocates arrived.

Police personnel were seen arguing with his lawyers and seeking their cooperation to carry out the arrest. They also requisitioned the assistance of Fire and Rescue Services personnel to break open the door and gain entry, police sources said.

Shankar was arrested at his residence around 2.15 p.m., following which searches were conducted at the house.

Earlier, in a video posted on social media, Shankar claimed that the police had come to arrest him in connection with a criminal case registered by the Adambakkam police based on a complaint lodged by film producer Purushothaman in June last year.

He alleged that Purushothaman had claimed he was assaulted and threatened by Shankar and his team members when he visited him last June and requested the deletion of a video containing derogatory content about him. The producer also alleged that ₹2 lakh was “snatched from him” and that an additional ₹10 lakh was demanded to delete the clip, Shankar said in the video.

Shankar said he was summoned by the Adambakkam police in October 2025 and he had then given a reply countering the allegations made by the complainant.

The police are yet to disclose details of the case and the complaint.
