Air quality remains in ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ categories across Delhi.

The Union Health Ministry has informed Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) that there is no conclusive data available to establish a direct correlation of death or disease exclusively due to air pollution. Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav said in a written reply that air pollution is one of the triggering factors for respiratory ailments and associated diseases.

“Health effects of air pollution are a synergistic manifestation of factors which include food habits, occupational habits, socio-economic status, medical history, immunity, heredity, etc. of the individuals. Government of India has taken several steps to address air pollution issues…,” Mr. Jadhav said.
He said programmes such as the National Programme for Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), “State Action Plan” on climate change and human health, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), aimed at to safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Clean Air programme launched in 2019 are some of the schemes which are part of a national level strategy to reduce air pollution levels across the country.”
