Senior Professor S. Sivakumar, Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi, has been appointed as a member of the Central Authority of the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice. The appointment, notified in the Union Gazette dated December 1, 2025, was considering his longstanding contributions to legal education, policy formulation, and judicial reforms in India.
With over three decades of distinguished academic and administrative experience, including his leadership in legal education and contributions to the development of legal research and capacity building, he is the current President of Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and has also served as the Full time Member of the 21st Law Commission of India.
A Thiruvananthapuram native, he has also been actively associated with ‘No Drugs Programme’ initiatives in Kerala, contributing to public education, legal awareness, and youth-focused preventive campaigns against substance abuse. Presently, he is working on the development of a Citizens’ Rights Education Programme at the school-level for helping shape an aware, responsible, and rights-conscious young citizenry.
